Why Does My Teeth Look Yellow

Extrinsic Stains. These are external stains present on the outer surface of your teeth. It is often caused by coffee, wine, tea, tobacco use and poor oral hygiene. These stains are not permanent but can be persistent. Thus, it can only be removed by scaling and polishing treatment. Regular brushing will not remove these stains.

Intrinsic stains. These are internal stains present within the internal structure of your teeth. These are some causes of internal stains.

  • Fluorosis

  • Developmental problems of the teeth
  • Necrotic teeth

These stains are permanent teeth stain and darken naturally over time. This can make you feel less confident about your smile. Regular consumption of tea, coffee, wine and smoking can cause your teeth to become much darker. With lasting effect, teeth whitening can make your smile look brighter and younger.

Option 1: Home whitening

Home whitening uses a custom made, plastic mouth-guard like tray to whiten your teeth. They are made specifically for each individual by our technicians and are designed to hold a teeth whitening gel against your teeth for a duration of time. These trays are worn overnight using special teeth whitening gels for a 2 week initial period. It is normal to experience teeth sensitivity as part of your whitening treatment.

Home whitening happen over a longer period of time compared to surgery based teeth whitening but the investment is lower and you have the option of ”topping up” with additional whitening gel in the future.

Option 2: In-office Zoom whitening

Zoom by Philips is an in office based whitening system that uses a special light activated gel that offers you great results in under 1 hour. Your dentist will apply a whitening gel to your teeth and a teeth whitening light will be placed over your teeth. During this time, you can relax and watch TV in our treatment rooms whilst your dentist monitors your treatment. The concentration of whitening gel is stronger than the at home whitening option so it is normal to experience more sensitivity.
